Can Bob Beers save Nevada? You betcha

So can Mr. Beers save Nevada? With TASC and his good character, not much can be disputed. Not many lawmakers have taken an opportunity to look outside party lines and their cohort of disillusionment. Beers does what's right, and at this point in my day, that's the best I've seen in a lifetime. Too bad his northern counterpart can't match his character.

Liberty Watch is off the mark - first Wakefield, then Ward

In regard to the column, Money Matters ["When the big boys buy," August], the FRB has been obsolete since before it was even approved. In 1913, there were already 48 states and hundreds, if not thousands, of counties. Today we have up to 100,000 (basic 5-digit) Zip Codes, and even this is not nearly enough to indicate just how immense the economy really is. For example, Wal-Mart, the world's largest chain of retailers, has reported $278 billion in income. If Wal-Mart only sells products in the United States, that easily divides out to less than $1,000 per person, which further divides out to less than $20 per-customer-per-week.

The "True South" column ["Yankee Fascists," August] is even further off the mark: There is only the most minimal option for Eminent Domain seizures because there is far more than enough land for every person, even a minute-old baby, to own an acre of land. The rest of the land may be put to any and all other lesser uses. We make too much of a "god" of competition.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that this letter will not be published.

Bush Republicans aren't exactly fiscally conservative

Doug French was right on target - with what I've been thinking for a while, at least. How in the world can Republicans be considered fiscally conservative when Bush and his Republican Senate spend so frivolously ["Money for Whatever They Want," June]?

All it seems we can do is complain.
