The most basic education is better than none
It is amazing and hilarious that Ken Ward and so many others have become slaves to the "bell-curve" ["Closing the Gap," November]. The root of the word elite is supposed to mean "un-attested" therefore even the most basic education is better than none.
The "elite" are the most dangerous people because they can't distinguish between democracy/republic and mob rule. Or worse, they prefer mob rule because a truly republican/democratic society is infinitely more difficult to influence. "Republican" is simply the Latin translation of the Greek word "democracy."
The real war against slavery requires a much flatter curve, like a symbol, where the minimum number in the highest group cannot be less than two-thirds of the total population.
History is not absolute, yet neither is progress guaranteed. We need to correct a mistake in the U. S. Constitution such that the number of states is tied to the square root of the population, and representation in the U. S. House is based on the zip code or smaller districts so that each representative has fewer bosses to connive against.

Las Vegas is America's bar, therefore it will never die
I'm sending a rebuttal to one Doug French, who seems to think that things will be cloudy here someday ["Vegas' clock is tickin'," December]. When bad economic times lead to a town drying up and blowing away, the last business to leave town is the bar. Las Vegas is the nation's bar. The spirit of our entrepreneurs and economic history of our fair city are a testament to it. It'll be cloudy everywhere someday, but Las Vegas is pretty far down the list.

The last cover piece was in poor taste, Mr. Zigler
The feature story on porn and Stagliano ["Uncensored," December] is in such poor taste that even the cover photo of him is too disgusting to have the issue visible in our home. One more like that and it's time to cancel.
