BATTLE BORN AND BATTLE READY
Kris Munn is ready to represent Assembly District 21
BY DAVID HIMMEL
Kris Munn knows what he wants to do. Since his college days at Texas A&M University, he wanted to serve his country. Maybe he got the spark for public service as senior class president in high school, but regardless, Munn has been assiduous in pursuing that goal.
At Texas A&M, he joined the ROTC Air Force program, then went on to serve four years of active duty. He remains involved as Captain in the Air Force Reserves. When he was asked to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom, he did so without pause and was honored with four awards for his efforts.
Assembly District 21 has a great candidate on their hands. In a legislative body filled with mostly Democrats, Munn isn't ready to be a cog. Rather, he wants to show dissension - to tell the other lawmakers that constituents do not want any more frivolous taxes imposed on their wallets. That a 3-percent property tax cap is just that: a cap. Not a 3-percent increase cap - annually.
"The Nevada Legislature has slowly been eroding the good tax system that appeals to most of our citizens," Munn said. "A surplus means we're already over-taxing. We need to hold government growth."
And should the surplus continue, Munn thinks it best to let the taxpayers decide where the money goes - whether it is back to the people or distributed amongst education and merit pay. It is a choice the constituents of Assembly 21 and the state of Nevada should choose, not the intrusive bureaucrats in Carson City.
"We have a spending problem," Munn said of the state legislature. "Restraint is out of fashion. What lawmakers must do is follow the example that the people in Nevada set."
Unfortunately, as of late, the government has been desperately trying to grow and tax more and more.
"The more the government gets involved, the more it costs the taxpayer."
When Assemblyman Bob Seale announced that he would not seek re-election, he was quick to endorse Munn.
"Bob has served Nevada well and I have the utmost respect for him," Munn said. Clearly, the feeling is mutual.
Munn is familiar with the needs and wants of District 21's constituents. He also understands that an Assemblyman's position is to take the people's desires and apply them to the state.
A small business owner, Munn knows about personal responsibility and the challenges that a business owner faces, as well as the joys. As the owner of Silver Star Cattle, he is familiar with the importance of business growth in Southern Nevada and acknowledges that red tape and high taxes do not encourage new businesses. And it's hard to keep existing ones.
In a state that boasts "Battle Born" on its flag, Captain Kris Munn is undoubtedly a Republican readily available to represent District 21 and help return Nevada politics back to its conservative roots. LW
