Ken Ward is right — abolish the D.C. lobbyists
Dear Mr. Ward:
I just read your article in the July 2007 issue of Liberty Watch, “Bye, George.”
I want to say your analysis of the current political situation is right on. The only salvation this country has is if Congress will pass term limits and abolish the lobbyists in Washington. Unfortunately, this will never happen. The congressmen and congresswomen are too entrenched in the corruption of politics.
Keep on writing your articles. You have great insight on the debauchery and stupidity that plague our politicians.

Liberty Watch did a great job on Ron Paul

Thanks so much for your article on Ron Paul [“Ron Paul Revolution,” August]. It’s difficult to find articles that represent real reporting rather than the author’s take of “he can’t win.”
It doesn’t take a genius to know that the odds against Ron Paul are long. But that shouldn’t preclude covering his campaign without mentioning tin foil hats and the like. Thanks again for a good article.

Ron Paul revolution? Fat chance!

Are you kidding [“Ron Paul Revolution,” August]?
The Ron Paul campaign, such as it is, will crash and burn at the first of the primaries in a few months. As Paul becomes better known, his negatives will rise as he presents his message.
Oh, yeah — the young don’t vote. They have, it seems, better things to do.
   You are deceived by appearances.
But then, so were the several third parties in 2000, whose own polling didn’t tell them that their own party members would sell out to Bush and Gore.
It’s like this: Paul’s campaign will end with the first primaries, then the several “freedom lovers” and “anti-war activists” will switch to some third-party type, and then they will sell out to the Republican or the Democratic candidate at the general election in 2008.
   Same old story; no revolution.
One last observation. Ron Paul has been in Congress how many years? Twenty? And shouldn’t this qualify him as one of those lifetime members that the original anti-Federalists complained of? So you are backing someone who, as the unloveable Lincoln put it, doesn’t work, gets his bread by other people’s sweat, and has no other occupation but getting re-elected.
   Who’s kidding whom? Hey?
Richard Burnett

So when will the (expletive) hit the fan? Here’s my guess

My guess on the manure hitting the fan is somewhere between 2013 and 2015 [“When it hits the fan,” August.] POTUS 44, whoever he (or more likely, she) is will be the American Gorbachev, elected to “fix” the system. But all the entrenched interest groups will scramble to avoid being the ones having to make the sacrifices and will gridlock each other. By 2012, the honeymoon will be over, and nobody will believe anymore that the system can be fixed. Either P44 will be re-elected in general apathy or a radical P45 will be elected, to the horror of the world, which will pull the plug. Either way, the house of cards will collapse, leading to a Soviet-style meltdown of the United States.
Since the rest of the world has been preparing for this for years, the jolt will be a lot less outside America, and a multipolar world will emerge: EU, Russia, China, India, EU clones in other parts of the world (Latin America, Africa, etc.)
Michael Kenny

Thanks for the info on Ron Paul’s campaign

Thank you for the informative piece on Ron Paul and the Las Vegas Ron Paul Meetup Group [“Ron Paul Revolution,” August]. Your article was fair and showed Dr. Paul as the sincere representative of the people that he is.
We feel that most of the mainstream media is portraying Dr. Paul as a “longshot” candidate because he hasn’t raised tens of millions of dollars for his campaign. However, the grassroots movement for Dr. Paul consists of thousands of people like us who are organizing to achieve the Republican nomination for the 2008 presidency. We are not paid to do this. We all do it because we believe Ron Paul is the only candidate we can trust to restore our government to a “government for the people.”
