In honor of Mike Zigler's birthday....some good news
Hello friends,
On Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009, Mike Zigler would have turned 30. For all of us, today is a day of sadness, with reflection on the many happy moments.
In Mike's honor, I've been working with Mary Hausch @ UNLV, Kara and Himmel to establish the Mike Zigler Scholarship, which will be awarded in April 2010 through the UNLV School of Journalism.
Our goal is to raise $5000 this year, but not all would be given the first year. We want the opportunity to keep Mike's memory alive as long as possible. More details about the scholarship will follow in January.
Please give generously, as Mike would have given generously to you.
Donations can be sent by check or made online through UNLV Foundation website.

BIODIVERSITY AND ELEPHANT CONSERVATION TRUST
Hiya,
I want to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about the Biodiversity & Elephant Conservation Trust, which I sent you an invite to join. This is a 100% legit organization doing some great things in Sri Lanka. The brains and leadership behind this is Jayantha Jayawardane, who is one of our closest family friends. I have known Uncle Jayantha since I was a little tyke, and he still remains a man who has always had my deepest respect and trust.
The BECT was formed several years ago and has been involved with many awesome projects in the past. For those of you who remember, this is the same organization that built Ruvinagama, a housing project that built and donated 35+ homes to those affected by the Tsunami several years ago.
BECT is and has been actively involved in the Sri Lankas elephant conservation for years. Their current focus is on helping out families that have had a family member killed by elephants. The school book program for those kids affected is now in its 3rd year. They have also done other projects to help communities and families affected by elephants.
Unlike many charitable organizations where the overheads are high, BECT remains dedicated to using all donations dircetly towards their projects. There are no salaries or compensation paid to anyone who is involved. All monies are directly applied to their projects.
I send you this letter to ask that you please consider donating even a small amount towards this incredible organization. Other than the book program done once every year, they are also building homes for affected families. For each $3500 collected, they are able to build and donate a home to a family. Thats right. I did say $3500, incredible as that sounds.
For those who are living in Sri Lanka or can directly give the donations to BECT, please do so. Meanwhile I am taking up a collection that I will forward to them periodically. To make this easy you can make the donations thru my Paypal account. My paypal account is
[email protected] Please attach a message to the payment simply saying BECT. If youd rather send a check, please contact me.
Folks I am not looking for huge donations here. Even just $5, $10, $20 donations will still go a long way for this project. They will use it well. Of course if you want to sponsor a whole house for $3500, we will gladly take it.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Aven
